One of the innovations of this movie among action movies is it doesn't have a villain per se. It doesn't

have a human villain. It has faceless hordes of, well, faceless hordes of like feral Asian brutes

who might as well be the Viet Cong as they were imagined in the Reagan era. And like typically,

the Robert McKee storytelling guide would probably tell you, like,

you got to have one guy to hang your hat on.

You got to have Gary Oldman as the, you know.

The ultra-nationalist.

Yeah.

And he'll say, oh, freedom.

I spit on your freedom.

But then he'll also say, we're not so different, you and I.

Have you considered how your Western imperialism has rendered my people impotent on the world stage?

But see, Will, that is, I think that is really important.

And I agree that it's a flaw.

But I was thinking it is, it is central to what this movie is doing.

Yes. Because if if the movie added even the specificity of like a generic caricatured villain,

it would cease to be what it is and what, you know, Salone clearly kind of aspired for it.
