And Sam Neal, he needs this as basically a voyage of personal discovery, because he's spending

so long in the dirt that he has forgotten what his true responsibility is, which is to be a father

and have children. Oh man, this scene right at the beginning where they're like, you know, they're at the dig

or whatever.

And he's describing a velociraptor to the assembled kids, you know, some like smart-ass kid

from the back is like, you know, it looks like a six-foot bird or something.

He's like, that doesn't look very scary.

And then he has this like protracted rant, which goes on for quite a while where He's like, that doesn't look very scary. And then he has this like protracted rant,

which goes on for quite a while where it's like, look, little Billy, you know, imagine it's the

crustaceous period and you're out in the jungle and you see one of these things, look at you.

And then just when you least expect it, it's buddy because they attack in pairs, comes over

and it tears a little arm off. Would you like that, Billy, if it tore your

arm off and ate it in front of you while you bled out? Yeah, before we had Jeff Daniels talking

about how America is not the greatest country in the world. We had Sam Neal telling a child that

they should be killed by a dinosaur. Yeah, and then by the end, the kid is like trembling and crying and he's like,

you know, he's done his work. And, and then this establishes the fact that Sam Neal's character

is terrified of children and is uninterested in having them. So you've got these two different

visions of masculinity, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neal. Jeff Goldblum's basically just the comedy relief. He assumes responsibility

for his own fatherhood in the sequel, The Lost World. We don't spend a lot of time on that side of his

personality here. But, you know, they're both skeptics. Jeff Goldblum is a kind of a cool

bohemian skeptic and Sam Neal is a more salt-of-the-earth skeptic. But they're both kind of

bulled over when they finally arrive. Oh, and Laura Dern is here too, folks. And they're both
