On this episode, we dig up RONALD REAGAN SPEAKS OUT AGAINST SOCIALIZED MEDICINE (1961) to examine how the pillars of Reagan's talking-points remain more or less unchanged 60 years later - and have even been adopted by Democrats. Well, folks, we don't have a movie for you on this episode. We have something better. Yes, we have the

0:07.0

theater of the mind. That's right. We have a classic record from the year 1961. There are many ways in

0:14.8

which our government has invaded the precincts of private citizens, the method of earning a living.

0:22.1

So for those who aren't familiar, Ronald Reagan speaks out against socialized medicine

0:26.9

was an actual LP put out as part of something called Operation Coffee Cup,

0:32.5

which was an American Medical Association, Public Relations Campaign, PR Offensive offensive in the 50s and 60s.

1:22.2

or overtones, I should say.

1:24.0

The line Ronald Reagan takes on this record is pretty much is that any expansion of kind of the

1:29.5

social safety net, any expansion of taxation, anything like that is a kind of quarter step towards

1:35.9

totalitarian control of all life. One day, as Norman Thomas said, we will awake to find that we have socialism. And if you don't do

1:46.1

this and if I don't do it, one of these days you and I are going to spend our sunset years

1:51.7

telling our children and our children's children what it once was like in America when men were free.

1:57.3

So I'd like to talk about a thing called the notwithstanding clause that we have here

2:01.1

in Canada, which is just kind of like one of the cuckier things that we have. I think our international
