I remember seeing like an award show around 2004, 2005.

It might have been the Emmys, might have been something, but they did like a tribute to friends.

And whoever it was who was introducing the tribute montage said something

like, you know, we don't know for sure what shows will stand the test of time. We don't know which

ones people will still be watching years from now. But we can be pretty certain that one of them

will be friends. And I remember watching that and thinking, okay, challenge accepted. Let's see.

Because for some reason, when I was that age, I don't know if this is fair or not, because as I say, I've only seen maybe a half dozen episodes, Friends became to me symbolic of mediocrity. It was this unfunny show with these people that I didn't like, you know, stack it up next to Seinfeld,

stack it up next to the Simpsons, and I don't know, didn't float my boat.

Nonetheless, that thing you quoted, I mean, couldn't have been more accurate.

I learned in researching for the episode that the show has gotten considerably more popular

since it went off the air.

There are all kinds of like tie-ins and stuff the various companies have launched at Pottery Bar.

They have a whole bunch of like friends tie-in objects.

Netflix paid like I think a hundred million dollars just to get the show for a year.

All the characters are at least represented as living kind of like this middle class
