Summary
In light of the new film Trap, we look at this writer/director's oeuvre. Was he a bright light (The Sixth Sense) that at one point went out (certainly by The Happening), and has that light gone back on as he's regained full control in his most recent films (Knock at the Cabin, The Visit, et al.)? Is he a genius, overrated, or somehow both?
Mark, Lawrence, Sarahlyn and Al disagree both about Trap and about the overall Shyamalan experience.

| 0:00.0 | This is pretty much pop, a culture podcast, and there will be no twist at the end of this. |
| 0:12.5 | Today we're discussing the films of M. Knight-Chamalan, his offspring in light of the new film, |
| 0:17.2 | Trap. This is Mark Linson-Mire, supporting a rather thin premise, but with heartfelt execution. |

| 0:36.5 | Al could hardly contain himself as we were starting, because I so wanted to give his take |
| 0:42.4 | on Trap. |
| 0:43.4 | Let's just first say, we're not going to do spoil right away. |
| 0:46.6 | The whole premise is in the trailer, so anything in the trailer with the setup is fair |
| 0:51.7 | game. |
| 0:52.5 | I didn't find this to be very spoilery. |
| 0:54.7 | I mean, it is, but it's like a huge twist like he normally has. |
| 0:58.3 | I know, but I'm just saying in general, like, after a certain point, we're going to spoil everything. Sounds good. Okay. Sounds good. Go ahead, Al. I was so angry watching this whole experience of watching M. Night Shyamalan movies has made me really, really angry because I was previously under the impression that he was a good filmmaker who's kind of lost his way in the latter part of his career. |
| 1:19.6 | Because I was a teenager when the Sixth Sense came out and I love the Sixth Sense. |
| 1:23.4 | And Unbreakable followed and I've rewatched Unbreakable, but let me tell you at the time when I was a teenager, I loved Unbreakable. |
| 1:29.6 | I thought M. Knight Shyamieland, this guy is going to go a really long way. And then I've rewatched a bunch of |
| 1:36.6 | M. Night Shyamalan movies, including the new one. And I now think that he is somebody who has no idea how to make good |
| 1:42.6 | movies and has gone. And got phenomenally lucky that one time. |
| 1:48.1 | And I can't explain it because I was looking and was saying, is it like a George Lucas thing |
| 1:52.0 | where like the editor was the person who saved it or like he had a co-writer or something? |
| 1:57.5 | What is it about the sixth sense? |
