Hi everybody, today my mommy is going to talk about John F. Kennedy.

Thank you, Noah, for introducing John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States.

Kennedy was the first president born in Massachusetts since John Quincy Adams. Kennedy was also the youngest president

ever elected to office, although not the youngest president in history. How is that so? John F. Kennedy

was 43 years old at his inauguration. Former president Theodore Roosevelt was a year younger when he became president

at 42. Unlike Kennedy, Roosevelt wasn't elected president for his first term and only became

president after the assassination of William McKinley. John F. Kennedy was born in the year 1917 and was the second of nine

children his father Joseph and Mother Rose would have. John's father, Joseph, was one of the richest

men in America when John was born and his mother Rose was the daughter of Boston's mayor.

This made the Kennedy family very powerful and influential.

John left playing sports as a child but suffered a serious back injury playing football

that would cause him chronic back pain for the rest of his life.

In the 1940s, John F. Kennedy graduated from Harvard University and was awarded a medal for

heroism in a non-combat situation by the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps during World War II.

Following the war, Kennedy spent six years as a U.S.

representative, then eight years as a U.S. senator from Massachusetts. In 1953, he married

Jacqueline Lee Bovier, a journalist and photographer from another wealthy family. Following their marriage,

the Kennedy family suffered lots of misfortune. John's back pain got worse and worse until he

couldn't get around without the aid of crutches. He needed two spinal surgeries to give him enough comfort to be mobile again.

Jackie had miscarriages in both 1955 and 1956, but things began to turn around for the

Kennedys the following year when Caroline was born, followed by her brother John Jr. three years later.
