Good evening. Once again, I am Stephanie Ruhl, and it is day 39 of the second Trump administration.

And President Donald Trump said today, a Russia-Ukraine peace deal will occur fairly soon or it won't happen at all.

In just a few hours, Ukrainian president Volodomier Zelensky is expected to land in the U.S. to finish the rare minerals deal.

Security guarantees have been a major sticking

point, but today the president downplayed them when he met with British Prime Minister at the White

House. He is the latest world leader to try to reason with the president on how to approach

these negotiations. The New York Times reports, quote, he intended to use his visit to urge Trump

not to abandon Ukraine to the

demands of Putin. Here's a bit of what we heard during that meeting. We're working very hard

to get that war brought to an end. I think we've made a lot of progress. I think it's moving

along pretty rapidly. It'll either be fairly soon or it won't be at all. The UK is ready

to put boots on the ground and planes in the air to support a deal. We've discussed a plan today

to reach a peace that is tough and fair, that Ukraine will help shape that's backed by strength

to stop Putin coming back for more.

Trump, on the other hand, said that he trusted Putin would uphold any peace deal

reached with Ukraine.
