While dress listeners, I've said it once and I will say it again.

I will shout it from the rooftop, I suppose.

But if one good thing was to come out of Kim Kardashian's wearing of Marilyn Monroe's iconic

happy birthday dress, it is that this controversy has raised the profession of fashion conservation

out of relative anonymity and into the spotlight.

Yes, and just to be clear here, we are not happy about the damage done to this dress,

but we are thrilled that it has introduced an entirely new audience to the highly skilled

profession of preserving fashion history for present and future generations.

Yeah, and fashion is actually all too often homogenized under the umbrella term of textile

conservation, but as we will learn today, it actually comes with its own unique set of

requirements and skill sets that distinguish it from textiles or other items of dress.

And as we will also learn today, fashion conservation is both a science and an art form.

So in addition to being integral to the life and display of a garment,

fashion conservators are storytellers in their own right.

And that includes today's guests who is one of the greatest fashion storytellers of them all.
