For American hysteria's second season premiering this coming Monday, June 3rd, you can expect

the same explorations of moral panics, urban legends, and conspiracy theories, but we're

also going deep into the fantastical thinking that has long shaped American culture.

For our season premiere, find out all about how America became obsessed with talking to

the dead, from the Civil War to the Jazz Age, and how the spiritualist movement was more

about the political and social causes than it was about the spirits themselves, full of

progressive, intersectional issues of race and gender that just might remind you of some

of the issues we still face today.

For season two, you can expect deep dives into the panics around the scourge of germs,

apparent terrorists, and dangerous teenagers, explorations into medical quackery, and horribly

offensive fake illnesses.

Legends of the strangest local monsters you've never heard of, and forays into when crosswords

and other innocent fun and games threaten the entire social order.

Of course, we'll keep looking at how and why these irrational fears and this magical thinking

developed, what they act to cover up, and how they make us all into believers, one way or

another.
