Summary

With both teams missing the majority of their superstar players, the Lakers and Nets opened their preseason on Sunday afternoon -- with Brooklyn winning after a 4th quarter runaway. But, even with so much talent in street clothes, we got some insights into how the Lakers want to play and some data points we can learn from moving forward. Pete, Mike, and Darius discuss the game, focusing on some of the lineup choices Frank Vogel made, how the team looked defensively, and how much we should take away from the shooting performances put on by Malik Monk and Wayne Ellington.

And then you add on top of that the first

plays the first quarter. But what was definitely real, Mike, was we had fans in the building.

1:05.5

We had 16,000 and you were there. It was so good to see you on TV in your normal spot,

1:10.6

doing your hit on the baseline man. There was a sense of normalcy that I could only imagine was even more prominent in person. We're back, man. Just being in the building, it was, oh, it was great. It was great. And the 16,000 honestly felt like a sellout. And I get that it's relative to the last season and a half and such.

1:29.7

But it really felt like it in fans, despite what you said, Pete, like the star power of guys not playing may have been a NBA record, like an unprecedented nature, unless the Lakers and the Celtics played in the 80s in an exhibition game and nobody played.

1:46.1

I mean, we're just talking Hall of Famers for days sitting on the bench in their various street clothes and really only getting up a couple of times,

1:53.2

like when Dwight Howard got that whole thing and James Harden, blah, blah.
