Veg and today what we're talking about is how do you prepare your ground? How do you

prepare your environment and then what to do over the wintertime

and early spring to actually get your garden ready to grow giant veg so this

actually Kevin is something I'm of course not that familiar with. I don't have a true winter here in San Diego and also I haven't really grown a lot of giant beds. So where do I start if I'm a beginner? What do I need to be thinking about when I'm in the winter or when I'm just trying to do some prep?

You're fortunate to have sunshine all year round, but we have four or five seasons probably in in a month in the UK.

Yeah. In terms of winter for us and probably for you it's an opportunity for us to to look at

cleaning down our tools and tidying up the greenhouses or the glass houses and

and really just having a general winter maintenance but probably for you it's more about

successional growing so you're looking at what you can plant in the ground afterwards

sorry after a crop has been harvested.

But for us what we look at is giving the soil a rest because a lot of our

giant vegetables are grown in traditional soils as well as hydroponics.

So the start for us in the early autumn, say September, October time is to clear the ground and then so green

manure's.

So what we will do is we'll use nitrogen fixes such as field beans and veg.

We have a problem in our soil called Verticillium, which is kind of like a, it's a

soilborn disease, so you'll grow cucumbers and they're wilt.
