unpopular girl. We were inspired to return to it by a far gentler film, Kelly Freeman Craig's winning new

adaptation of Are You There God is Me Margaret, Judy Blum's classic 1970 novel about what it's like to

inch into adulthood as a confused girl in the New Jersey suburbs. A bit about Bloom. Among the

archival footage included

in the recently released documentary Judy Bloom Forever, which we'll talk about it in a little bit,

there's a clip of the author telling Jean Chalett about her unusually sharp memory. I have total

recall from third grade on, she says. Everything. That may explain why in another clip, taken from

a reading at the height of Bloom's fame in the 70s and 80s,

one young reader says she believes Bloom understands her better than her own parents, because of the way she writes.
