Summary

Imagine a world in which we decide today to trust God with everything we have and from this moment forward we live in His peace and confidence because of that decision. It’s truly hard to imagine, right?

Instead, I’ve found that trusting God is a lifelong process of reminding ourselves how God is good and why he’s trustworthy. It’s going back to biblical truth that he’s our strength and our shield (Psalm 28:7), our hope and our future (Jeremiah 29:11), and working all things for good (Romans 8:28).

I’m guessing our anxiety and stress levels would look a whole lot better if we could fully embrace these promises of scripture.

Today we’re praying for our kids to learn to trust God just as David does in Psalm 3. We’re praying they know that God is their sole sustainer whether they are facing an army of enemies or simply a future of uncertainties. Why? Because God is trust worthy. He really is.

Let’s pray over that today.

P.S. We would be so grateful if you’d consider sharing Pardon the Mess with a friend. Encourage those you know and love to join us in praying each week by forwarding this email or sending a link to the show. Thank you!

you, but there's places in my life, big ones right now and small ones where I just need reminders

of why we trust God. How do we trust God? What does it look like to trust God?

0:37.0

And what I love is that Psalm 3 is

0:39.2

speaking into that. And that's our Psalm this week. The key verses are verses 3 through 4,

but you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the one who lifts my head high. I will call out

to the Lord and he answers me from his holy mountains. And so the cool thing

0:56.5

about this Psalm is one of the first, if not the first Psalm in Psalms that's attributed to David.

And I love that David, here we have a guy, the man after God's own heart, who like straight out

1:06.8

of the barrel is like things are not good, not good. And I'm going to walk through this Psalm a

little bit more. And I will read the whole thing later, but it's a kind of shorter one. But I'm

1:14.7

going to walk through this a little bit because I do think he gives us a little bit of a masterclass

1:18.0

on trusting God when things are not good. And we'll talk about this and how he does it and how does

1:23.4

that apply to our own lives and our kids. And so let's just start with us. He starts by saying, Lord, how many are my foes? How many rise up against me? And he at this point is being chased

out of his throne, out of his kingship by his son Absalom, who has formed a coup, a successful

coup. And David is basically fleeing and going to hide in a cave. And so not only is his

son rebelling, but he's gotten a lot of David's friends and advisors and people that have joined
