Summary

When you hear the word joy, what comes to your mind?

I’m guessing your answer is more profound than mine since I instantly start humming that old VBS song “I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy, down in my heart. Where?”

Anyone else with me?

This week we’re praying for our kids to experience joy in their lives. It seems especially important when considering how deeply our kids’ generation struggles with anxiety and depression.

One of my favorite verses is Psalm 30:5 that says, “Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.” What a wonderful reminder that no matter what we’re facing in this season, there is still joy to be found on the other side of it.

Let’s take a few minutes today to consider how thankfulness, hope in Jesus, and even walking through places of suffering are pivotal to joy in our kids’ lives.

P.S. We would be so grateful if you’d consider sharing Pardon the Mess with a friend. Encourage those you know and love to join us in praying each week by forwarding this email or sending a link to the show. Thank you!

Hey guys, welcome to pardon us.

I'm glad you're joining us today.

We are praying for joy over our kids this week. And I'm excited that we're

0:22.4

praying this because I think we all know or we've seen at least in the news or somewhere the

0:26.8

statistics about the levels of anxiety and depression and how high they've gotten post-COVID

0:32.1

and especially how it's impacting our kids. And so joy seems elusive. And that is not God's plan for our

0:39.7

lives or our kids. And so I think it's something we really can dig into and pray over. So it's first of all,

0:45.5

Psalm 30. That's what we're focused on. And then Psalm 30 verse 5 is the one that I have written down

0:51.3

as the key verse. Here's the new living translation of Psalm 30,

0:55.4

verse 5. For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime. We be me last through the

1:01.3

night, but joy comes with the morning. Think about that. Lord's anger can only last a moment because

1:08.1

his favor lasts a lifetime. Knowing you have God's favor,

1:11.1

that in and of itself, that you have that all of your life and for all eternity, that in and of

1:15.6

itself should be bringing us joy, right? But then I love the practicality of this, the reality,

1:21.2

that there will be hard things we're facing. There's no question about it. And so we may last

1:25.3

through the night, but joy comes with the morning. With every

1:28.1

new season, there will be joy. And so I think that's an encouragement to us. I was sitting here

1:34.0

thinking about joy and praying about this before taping. And I was trying to think of someone

1:38.7

that really exudes joy in my life. And I could think of several examples, but one that really

1:43.6

just kept coming back to my mind
