Summary

Might I share with you one of my favorite quotes of all time?

“Our greatest fear should not be of failure, but of succeeding at things in life that don’t really matter.” - Francis Chan

I heard that quote many years ago and it continues to guide how I look at the various things that occupy my days. As I pray for the Lord to show favor over my life and that of my families, I find myself asking him to not allow us to be successful in things that are insignificant.

This week as we’re praying excellence over our kids, I think this quote needs to be in the back of our minds as we consider how we pray. So often we want our kids to be excellent at the things the world holds in high esteem, yet those same things often distract them from the bigger purposes God has for their lives.

We’re called to do all things for the Glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31) and excellence is critical to doing that well. Let’s join together in praying for our kids to show excellence in all the things he calls them to.

Hey, friends, welcome to pardon the mess, this Cynthia, and I'm glad you're with us as we are

0:19.3

praying for our kids. And this week,

0:21.3

we're praying excellence for our children. And I was reminded that we have new people

0:25.9

joining us every week that maybe haven't been praying with us in the past. And so I just

0:30.0

want to give a quick reminder on what we do each week. The intention behind this podcast is just

0:35.5

to help us join together and pray for our kids. And I always come from

0:40.0

a place of being completely honest and vulnerable that as much as I believe it's important to pray

0:44.6

for our kids, I know in my head that's what's a significant thing I can do for them on any given

0:48.9

day. I just have not historically been good at doing it. I just either didn't pray for them or I prayed

0:54.7

generically or it just kind of became a rote thing, keep them safe, Lord. And so I just really come from

1:00.3

a place of conviction that I wasn't doing it well in my own life and have found so many of you

1:05.4

that feel the same way. And so my hope is that each week in this podcast, that's what we're doing, is we are just thinking of different ways to pray for our kids and presenting them before the Lord.

1:13.6

And I am not coming to you with any given expertise each week in a given area necessarily,

1:19.7

but more so just as a mom, as someone who loves the Lord, just what is it going to look like

1:25.0

if we pray these different things for our kids and some ideas

1:27.7

on how to approach it. And so that's my hope for you each week. And as you're praying for your

1:32.8

kids, I'd love for you to encourage your friends to join you and doing that. It's just so important

1:37.2

for our families. And so this week is we're praying excellence. I'm excited to talk through this

1:42.5

because I think there's different ways to look at excellence. The verse in the prayer journals, 1 Corinthians 1031, so whether you eat or drink or

1:49.2

whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. And I kind of laugh when I look at that particular
