You've probably been told your whole life that he does, no matter what, no matter how, but Scripture says otherwise.

Today, Francis Chan flips the script on casual prayer and exposes

the one thing that made even Jesus' prayers powerful, the fear and reverence of God.

And I want to share a verse with you that I am hoping will change the way we pray this morning and even beyond that.

It's a verse that puzzled me for a while, and whenever there's one of those verses, I look

deeper at and then I realize, oh, God is really trying to communicate something to us.

It's Hebrews chapter 5, verse 7. It says this.

It's talking about Jesus, and it says, in the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and

supplications with loud cries and tears to him who was able to save him from death

and he was heard because of his reverence I remember the first time I read that, I'm like, wait, that doesn't make sense.

Jesus was heard because he's the son of God. Jesus was heard. He could just, just wake up, couldn't he

and say, hey, good morning, Father, just just say anything that's not what scripture says

that says god heard him because of his reverence so there was a way and i've studied i've looked at it

in the greek it's like, no, it's

really reverent, it's really a fear. It's really like a, I'm going to come before, I know who

I'm coming before. And so the way that I speak to him is with this reverent submission.

It's a not my will, but yours be done. And I just look at that. I go, if that's the way

Jesus prayed and he has heard because he's so reverent, how are we supposed to pray?

See, sometimes we treat prayer like, oh God, here's all our prayers. No, he doesn't. The scripture is so clear about this.

Prayer is conditional. It is very conditional. And if it was for Jesus, it certainly is for us.

He was heard because of his reverence. I love praying.
