Summary

"In today's Conversations for the Journey, host and Care Director Wes Butler leads us in praying through Acts 8:26-40. This week, Wes leads us in prayer for three things: for our church to be sensitive to God's sending, for the lost to have an increased hunger and curiosity for Christ, and that we would have a hunger to be witnesses for Jesus Christ to the lost. This is the Join the Journey weekly prayer podcast. Unlike our new Tuesday teaching episodes,

0:15.3

this time is set apart for guided prayer as we abide in Jesus together. Here's your host, West Butler. Well,

0:24.0

welcome back to Conversations for the Journey. I'm so honored and humbled that you all continue to come

0:29.7

back and join us for this weekly time where we get to focus on praying through the passages

0:34.7

that we're reading this year on the journey.

0:42.1

So this week we are finishing up the eighth chapter of the Book of Acts,

0:46.7

and this is such an important story and one that probably is very familiar to you,

0:50.4

of the Ethiopian eunuch and his encounter with Philip.

0:56.6

And so I love this passage where Philip is sent by the Holy Spirit to a place where he doesn't really know why he's going there or what he's doing, but then he hears this Ethiopian

1:01.1

Unic reading the Word of God and then asks him, hey, can I help you? Essentially. And so that's what

1:06.8

we get to step into today is this amazing story and for this week just to focus on

1:11.8

what the spirit does. And so as I was thinking about this passage and thinking about where

1:17.0

the Lord, I think, would have us spend time praying today. There were three things that I just

1:22.4

want to draw our attention to. The first is, I think about the marker that we have here at Watermark of being

1:28.1

ascending church. And this is a really remarkable moment in the life of the early church, where Philip

1:33.9

is told to go somewhere by the Holy Spirit. And then these words are just double underlined in my

1:39.9

Bible, where it just says, and he rose and went. And then later in the story, as Philip does

1:46.1

encounter this Ethiopian eunuch, we see the Ethiopian eunuch say, how can I understand these

1:51.2

scriptures that I'm reading unless someone guides me? It reminds me of that passage in Romans 10,

1:56.7

where the apostle Paul says, how can they call on him in whom they have not believed, and how are they to

2:01.5

believe in whom they have not heard, and how are they to hear without someone preaching to them,

2:05.9

and how are they to preach unless they are sent? And then it says this great quote from the Old Testament,

...
