0:28.0	prayer in response to what he has spoken to us through His Word. As always, we're so thankful that
0:33.6	we can start off this week on the journey, just committing ourselves to prayer and looking at
0:38.5	God's word as the vocabulary and the conversation that we just get to enter into with God.
0:44.4	And so we thank you, God, that you've spoken to us. And so as I look at this passage, we're really
0:49.0	just going to be looking at the first 25 verses of Acts chapter 8. It's a setting that begins with just kind of this declaration of the
0:56.6	persecution of the church that spread the gospel, frankly, it was that persecution that sent
1:01.8	people out. And then we get to follow one particular disciple of Jesus, Philip, as he is scattered
1:07.7	to a city of Samaria, we're told, and begins to share the gospel in a new place.
1:13.0	And so we see Acts 1-8 beginning to take place that it's started in Jerusalem and now it's
1:17.8	spreading to Judea and Samaria and ultimately to the uttermost ends of the world.
1:22.8	And so we're so excited that we're seeing this story begin to play out.
1:27.2	And then we see a man named Simon
1:29.6	the magician and just kind of his response to the gospel, both positively and negatively,
1:34.3	and what the Spirit of God does in that. And so a few things to draw our attention to as we pray
1:40.7	today. One is, I love that as Philip takes the gospel to the city of Samaria, as we pray today. One is I love that as Philip takes the gospel
1:45.8	to the city of Samaria, as we are told,
1:49.0	that that little section ends by saying
1:50.7	there was much joy in that city.
