Summary

"In today's Conversations for the Journey, host and Care Director Wes Butler leads us in praying through Acts 6:8-15. This week, Wes leads us in prayer for three things: that we would be full of grace and wisdom, for those who persecute us, that we would respond to those who persecute us in love. This is the Join the Journey weekly prayer podcast.

0:13.1

Unlike our new Tuesday teaching episodes, this time is set apart for guided prayer as we abide in Jesus together.

0:20.6

Here's your host, Wes Butler.

0:23.5

Well, welcome back to Conversations for the Journey. As always, I'm so glad that you have joined us.

0:29.5

This is our opportunity to commune with our God through prayer in response to what he has spoken to us

0:34.2

through His Word. And I'm so encouraged that you are still here with us on the

0:39.0

journey this year, that we are making our way through the Book of Acts. And again, today,

0:43.8

we have just a short little passage, the second half of Acts chapter 6 versus 8 through 15.

0:50.1

This is right after the first deacons have been assigned, as we talked about last week, and we are kind of led to highlight and to focus in on one particular deacon named Stephen.

1:02.5

And Stephen, we're told, is a man who is full of grace and power. He was doing great things among the people. And then not only that, but even as people tried to oppose him,

1:12.7

they couldn't withstand the wisdom and the spirit with which he is speaking is what Luke says to us.

1:18.5

And so I just, as I was reading through this passage, a few things that stood out for us just to take some time today,

1:25.1

to be prayerful about and to be mindful of. First of all,

1:28.3

it is just that that idea of this man, Stephen, full of grace and power, doing great things

1:33.8

and doing so in such a way that even his opposition didn't know how to oppose him because of the

1:40.1

wisdom that he spoke with. And so, my goodness, friends, it is so important for us, I think,

1:45.8

today to take time to pray that we would be those types of people, that when people look at our

1:51.7

lives, that what they would see in us is grace. But they would also see that grace met with the

1:57.7

power of God to do great things, the ways that we serve one another, the ways that we

2:02.9

think of one another, the ways that we serve the lost around us. And even the ways that we speak

2:09.7

would be done in such a way that the world would not be able to withstand the wisdom with which we

2:16.5

speak. And so that's the first thing that jumps out.
