Summary

"In today's Conversations for the Journey, College Director, Grant Wilkie, leads us in praying through Acts 5:17-42. This week, Grant leads us in prayer for three things: that we would have courage to obey God, that we would have conviction to preach the truth of the Gospel, and that we would be the type of believers who have a faith that would be persecuted. Friends, it's good to be back with you this week. If we haven't met, my name is Grant Wilkie. I'm our college director here at Watermark, and I'm filling in once again for Wes Butler. I said it last week, and I'll say it again. Wes is an incredible man and I feel

privileged beyond words to be able to follow in his footsteps and leading you guys, leading our church

to pray together. I hope, brothers and sisters, that you're enjoying the time we're spending together

in the Book of Acts this year on the journey. And as we kick off this week,

0:55.6

we're looking forward to another week in Acts chapter 5, verses 17 through 42. Now, this is quite a few

1:04.9

verses, so I won't read the whole thing this time. I would love to, and I'd encourage you to read it

1:10.2

yourself, because this is an incredible

1:12.1

passage to reflect on. But I'd briefly like to share the story of what's happening in this passage

1:18.4

1:26.5

are doing many signs and wonders, just like Moses did in the

Exodus, so they are doing here. And we see the high priest rise up. This is verse 17, and listen to this.

1:38.9

It says, the high priest and all who are with him, who belonged to the party of the Sadducees,

they were filled with jealousy. So, meaning because they were filled with jealousy, they arrested the apostles,

1:51.7

and they put them in the public jail. Or in Jesus' words where he says that if the world hated him,

2:00.6

well, they also hate you. Don't they

2:02.4

prove to be so true? It goes on to say, an angel to the Lord opened the doors of the jail during

2:07.7

the night, and he brought them out, brought the apostles out from jail. And he said to them,

2:12.9

go and stand in the temple and tell the people all about this life. Hearing this, they entered the temple

a daybreak, and they began to teach. Now, I don't know about you, but if I'm in jail, and I miraculously
