Summary

"In today's Conversations for the Journey, host and Care Director Wes Butler leads us in praying through Acts 4:1-31. This week, Wes leads us in prayer for four things: that we would be Gospel-Saturated, proclaiming Jesus's name in all that we do; that we would be recognized as being people who are with Jesus; that we would be faithful to love our enemies and have boldness even in opposition; praying for perseucted church all over the world. This is the Join the Journey weekly prayer podcast.

0:13.1

Unlike our new Tuesday teaching episodes, this time is set apart for guided prayer as we abide in Jesus together.

0:20.6

Here's your host, Wes Butler.

0:24.0

Welcome back to Conversations for the Journey.

0:26.6

Thank you so much for joining us again this week as we continue to make our way through

0:31.8

the book of Acts and as we look for the ways that the Holy Spirit might prompt us to pray back

0:37.3

his word to him. And so I hope that

0:39.6

you are continuing to enjoy what the Lord is teaching you. And I hope that you are continuing to

0:44.6

remain sensitive to how the Spirit would call you to pray. And just that you would, as the early

0:49.9

believers did, as we read about in Acts 2, that you would devote yourself to prayer. And so as we take a

0:56.3

look this week, we are kicking off this week looking at Acts 432 and on into Chapter 5 verse 11. This is a

1:04.1

really interesting passage for us to consider. And so just a few things to kind of highlight here.

1:10.1

Really, what's happening is it's almost

1:12.0

a repeat of the description of the early believers that we see in Acts 2, where it just is describing

1:17.8

who they are and what they're like. And we're told about this generosity that was evident among the

1:23.9

people of God at that time. And yet there's this kind of interesting twist as we see one

1:29.4

particular man who is very generous, sells a plot of land, gives all of it away to help those who

1:34.8

are in need. And then there's another couple that comes behind and they do something similar.

1:39.9

Ananias and Sapphire were told sell a piece land, and they present it as though they're giving

1:45.5

all of it away. And yet with a level of deception, they actually keep some for themselves,

1:50.8

but hoping that people think good of them. So it's a really interesting passage that I'm excited

1:55.9

for us to dive into this week and consider its implications for our life. But as we think about how we want to
