Summary

"In today's Conversations for the Journey, host and Care Director Wes Butler leads us in praying through Acts 2:1-21. In this episode, we pray for 3 things seen in Acts 2:1-21—we thank God for the gift of the Holy Spirit and ask him to give us a sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, that the fruit of the Spirit would be evident in our lives, and that we would revere God's Word. This is the Join the Journey weekly prayer podcast.

0:13.4

Unlike our new Tuesday teaching episodes, this time is set apart for guided prayer

0:19.0

as we abide in Jesus together.

0:21.6

Here's your prayer podcast host, Wes Butler.

0:24.6

Welcome to Conversations for the Journey, a weekly podcast to help us commune with our God through prayer in response to what he has spoken to us through his word.

0:32.6

We do believe that all prayer is not first us speaking to God, but is always us responding to the God

0:37.9

who first spoke to us. And so today we are looking this week at Acts 2 1 through 21, and we just

0:45.1

want to take some time to look and see how the Spirit of God might prompt us to pray. I hope that

0:50.1

you're doing that as you read these passages each week, as you're spending time, that you'll

0:54.6

just listen to the Spirit of God and how he might be encouraging you to pray. And so I just want to

0:59.5

share with you three ways that I think in this passage, the Spirit, is leading me to pray, what he is

1:04.9

bringing to my attention. And then I'll lead us to pray accordingly. So in Acts 2, we know this is the arrival of the Holy Spirit that Jesus had promised his disciples and that the Old Testament prophets had foretold.

1:17.2

One of the 10 markers that we have here at Watermark is that we want to be a spirit-led church.

1:21.6

We talk about that often. You heard TA talking about that last Sunday. And so today, I'm encouraged just to pray thanking God for the gift

1:29.1

of his spirit, that his spirit is here, that he does live in us and with us. And then just to ask

1:35.5

him to shape us his people here at Watermark and to shape in us an awareness of and a responsiveness to

1:41.8

and a dependence on the Holy Spirit and his movement in our lives and

1:46.3

in the world around us. And so we're going to pray here in a moment just that God will increase

1:50.7

in us that sensitivity to his spirit. And then secondly, as we continue in this passage, we see

1:56.5

with the arrival of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, there was a unique once in human history event.

2:02.6

But I believe that there's a principle here for us, namely that the Spirit's presence in our lives affects our lives so that the world around us is amazed and perplexed.

2:11.6

We see that in the response of the people there in Jerusalem in that moment wondering out loud, what does this mean as they
