Welcome to our Rosary meditation.

I am on the road again tonight, but thankfully tonight in Overland Park it was a long drive

to Sabetha last night and I'm happy to be here with a really large number of great women at Ascension's Advent

for Advent by candlelight. So let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

And let's call the mind all the people that we've promised to pray for.

Christmas is about joy, and joy is the response to something experienced as good,

and it invites us to rest in that good.

Joy is the rest in the possession of some good thing.

But humans are complicated creatures, and we need many good things to be happy and have joy.

We have the need for superficial goods like protein and carbs, the beauty of the human body to be

appreciated.

For me, it's coffee.

But then there are profound goods, food, shelter, safety and security,

family and friendship, knowledge, achievement and meaningful work, beauty.

But we need more.

We need the divine good. Union with God and sharing in his life.

The problem is that we get our loves out of order.

We put superficial and profound goods before God. We need all of these, but we

must keep them in order. Love the lesser things less, love the greater things more, for virtue is rightly ordered love.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallow it be your name, thy kingdom come,

thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
