Thank you. Let's get into God's Word. First Corinthians chapter 14 today, our text will be verses 5 through 7.

On Sunday mornings before the prophecy update, we're going through 1 Corinthians chapter by chapter and verse by verse.

And once you find your way to our text today, I'll ask you to stand if you're able and you can follow along as I read.

The Apostle Paul by the Holy Spirit is writing and says verse 5,

I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy.

The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks

in tongues unless someone interprets so that the church may be edified. Now verse six, brothers

and sisters, if I come to you and speak in tongues, what good will I be to you unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or word of instruction?

Even verse 7 in the case of lifeless things that make sounds such as the pipe or heart.

How will anyone know what tune is being played unless there is a distinction in the notes? Let's pray we'll ask God's blessing on our understanding if you would join with me.

Loving Heavenly Father, we want to give you our undivided attention today.

We want to ask that you'll speak to us in this time that we have together in your word today

and when you do, Lord, that you would speak very clearly into our lives.

Lord, this passage that we have before us is in our Bibles for a reason, and we need for you

to show us and minister to us what that reason is.

And we ask this in Jesus' name, amen.

And amen, you can be seated.

Thank you. Today's teaching will be part two of a new

series we began last week titled Practical Worship Guidelines. Here in this chapter, Paul is confronting

the Corinthians ignorance and even their arrogance concerning the use of spiritual gifts, namely that

of the gift of tongues over prophesying which seems to have been the dominant focus of their

worship services, their public worship services.
