Hi, this is Jim Daly with Focus on the Family, and here at the top of the broadcast, I need to alert you to something happening in the US Senate.

It could affect each one of us for generations to come.

There's an attempt to change the definition of marriage permanently and make same-sex marriage federally mandated law.

The US House recently passed legislation, the Misnamed Respect for Marriage Act.

Act does the exact opposite. It changes the very definition and meaning of marriage and makes it irreversible.

All Democrats voted in favor of the bill and many Republicans as well.

HR-84-04 requires states to recognize same-sex marriages from other states and seek to codify it into federal law.

That goes a step beyond the Supreme Court's 5-4 decision in 2015 inventing the right to same-sex marriage.

If this bill is passed, it could open the door for the federal government to force everyone, including religious organizations, to affirm same-sex marriages, polygamy and more.

This act is an assault on religious freedom and free speech. In the law would lead to costly lawsuits and harassment of millions of Christians, pro-family Americans and organizations who believe in one man, one woman marriage.
