I welcome Bill Whalen, the Hoover Institution, Politics and Policy, is his podcast.

We're going to have a conversation with history because Bill has introduced

me to the presidential greatness contest. This is a ratings of all the presidents from

jump to now. And there are some surprises here. Bill, a very good evening to you. The number one position is held by Abraham Lincoln.

That is not a surprise. Although it's a puzzle how you are supposed to rate someone with the challenges Lincoln had with anyone in the 20th century. That seems uneven. Did you find in this poll other uneven parallels,

you know, apples and oranges to compare? Good evening to you, Bill. Good evening. John, if we want to talk

about the oddities and inconsistencies and quirks in this survey, we're going to have to do

multiple segments here. But yeah, so Lincoln finishes first. Now, some historians would rate Washington first.

Why?

Because he was the first president.

He set the tone for the presidency, John, by walking away from it and making sure it was

not a monarchy.

But in this survey, Washington finishes third bird behind Franklin Roosevelt, who is in second

place.

So you can have a quibble about that.

If you're Republican, John, this will just absolutely drive you up the wall.

Why?

19 Republicans have been elected president of the United States, John, and one Republican

finishes in the top 10.
