Summary

Welcome, readers. We are so excited to continue this new content from the creators of Currently Reading Podcast! This spin-off podcast series will tackle book to screen adaptations in a spoiler-FILLED format. Be sure you’ve read the book and watched the film version before listening to the episode, because we don’t shy away from strong opinions OR from all the spoilers, unlike our regular episodes.

As you’ve come to expect with all Currently Reading content, Kaytee and Shad will follow a regular episode format, with regular segments, so you know what to expect each and every time. We call these the bowling lane bumpers, and they’ll help guide the conversation and keep us from rabbit trails.

Show notes for this series will not be time-stamped, but will include links to Bookshop dot org or Amazon for any books or resources referenced in the episode. These are affiliate links, so they kick back a small percentage to us if you buy through them, and help support the work we do on Currently Reading.

Hi readers, welcome to popcorn in the pages. In this spin-off episode series from currently

0:22.3

reading podcast, we will be exploring book to screen adaptation and what makes them great

0:27.1

or awful. In each episode, we'll tackle the book, the adaptation, and the ways they

0:31.7

complement each other. And as always, we do love a strong opinion.

0:36.0

I'm Katie Calm, co-host of the currently reading podcast, along with my partner, Meredith

0:40.5

Monday Shorts. And I will read nearly everything, but mostly keep my screen watching

0:45.2

two sitcoms and book adaptation. And I am Chad Kescoe, and I pretty much read for you guys

0:52.2

at this point, and that seems like it's probably going to be the trend going forward.

0:56.1

But I do consume a lot of TV and movies and screen adaptations, so that's why I am here.

1:03.2

Chad is our video expert, and I am our text expert. There we go.

1:08.2

In this episode, we are going to be exploring Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton,

1:13.2

which is now more than 30 years old the novel version is, which makes us feel very old.

1:18.6

Yeah, I was super excited for this pic, and let me tell you why. A couple of reasons. First off,

1:23.6

this movie is like my childhood, right? It came out in 93. So we were 9, 10 years old. I

1:29.9

remember going to see it in the theater, very much a memory for me, and also the book. So when

1:36.1

I think of Michael Crichton, maybe this is just me because of how old I was at that time,

1:40.9

but he's very much like a grown-up author. Yes. He's the kind of author your dad would read. He's

1:44.9

like James Patterson or Stephen King, like not someone that I would ever take on myself,

1:50.1

but I was surprisingly really, really excited to read it and really happy with it after I had read it.

1:55.5

So it was, this was a great choice for our second episode. I love everything about it.

1:59.2

I'm so happy to hear you say that, and it's hilarious because I actually borrowed my dad's copy

2:04.8

of Jurassic Park's lead read for this episode. That's something I would have picked up on my own,
