Summary

This week! Rich Grisham hosts a sit-down-via-Skype interview with the hosts of Player One. Topics include the formation of the podcast, favorite episodes, etc. We won't ruin it for you people who have been listening to the show for a long time except to say that it's a fun walk down memories of the previous 299 episodes. It's safe to say that if you're a Player One n00b you may not want to start with this episode. But everyone else, enjoy - and many thanks to Rich for the idea and for hosting/editing this special episode.

Check out Greg's new web series Generation 16 (Episode 4 now available) - click here. And take a trip over to Phil's YouTube Channel to see some awesome retro game vids.

Welcome to the 300th episode of the Player One podcast.

I'm your host, Richard Grisham.

This week is a celebration, the celebration of an amazing accomplishment.

And to mark the occasion of 300 episodes, I have the distinct honor of interviewing the four hosts of the Player One podcast, Greg Seward, Chris Johnston, Phil Theobald, and Mike Phillips. We'll take a look back at the history of the show, hear from some old friends, learn a few dark secrets and have a lot of laughs, and most of all, we'll miss Greg Ford. Without any further ado, here's episode 300 of the Player One podcast.

Six years ago, two friends got together to create something that's grown into a phenomenon

0:50.3

that neither of them could have predicted. While entire video game media enterprises have

0:54.9

risen and fallen during their reign, the Player One podcast has become the standard to which

0:59.2

many should aspire, but truly none reach. But why is that? Well, you know, we come for the video

1:04.4

game talk, but we stay for the guys. And that's because over the years, the guys on the show have

1:08.5

gone from being people that we remembered from our favorite gaming magazines into something much different.

1:13.6

Whether they know it or not, the four guys that make up the Player One podcast have become our friends.

1:18.3

Each and every week we hear their stories, what's going on in their lives as it relates to gaming,

1:23.4

but also as it relates to being a person just like us.

1:26.3

We've been with them through their marriages, the births of their children, road trips, and even some sad events along the way.

1:31.3

Over time, we've become almost reliant on listening in every week to hear not just about the latest game demo or remake of some long-lost classic,

1:40.3

but also to hear about Finn's adventure with Grandma, Charlotte's experience on a long

1:45.1

flight, Mike's daughter's Animal Crossing saga, and Cameron asking Greg to play a little more

1:50.1

Beatles rock band. But let's not be mistaken, though, even though we talk a lot about the guys,

1:55.5

it still is, of course, about the games. Without their encyclopedic knowledge and game collections that many of us

2:01.7

couldn't come close to boasting, the game talk is week in and week out, entertaining as hell.

2:06.9

And beholden to no one but their community, honest to a fault, and frankly making us feel better

2:12.2

about sucking at first-person shooters, pinball, platformers, sports, strategy, and pretty much everything else,
