In the previous chapters, Mr. Pendleton finally confessed to Polyana that it was her own mother that he had once loved.

After this, he made one final plea to Pollyanna to live with him, asking her to see if Miss Polly

would care if she left. But after some confiding words from Nancy, Pollyanna was sure that Miss Polly cared for her,

and she decided to stay.

Later, Pollyanna had the idea to have Jimmy Bean come to live with Mr. Pendleton instead,

and after some initial cynicism, he agreed to meet the boy.

Now that we're caught up with the story so far, let's get ourselves ready for sleep.
