Now normally, an off-year race to fill a congressional vacancy, particularly in a reliably

red state, would not draw so much attention. But in the wake of last month's Democratic victories in the Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial

races and the New York City mayoral race, Republicans are looking to head off any notion

that President Trump's messaging, particularly on affordability, is depressing GOP turnout

while energizing progressives and center-left moderates.
