Earlier this week, the prominent right-wing activist and close Trump ally Charlie Kirk

was shot during a public appearance in Utah. Graphic videos of the shooting immediately circulated

online and his death was soon confirmed by Donald Trump. While many politicians across

the spectrum have denounced the killing of Charlie Kirk, Trump has blamed what he calls

radical left political violence and vowed to go after the organizations he deems responsible.

A suspect was named and arrested earlier today. I'm Katie Stallard and this is the

New Statesman podcast. I'm joined today by my colleague Freddie Hayward here in Washington, D.C. Hi,

Freddie. Hello. So let's start with the basics here for people who have not been following

this closely. What do we know about where this took place and the sort

of event that Kirk was holding when this happened? Yeah, so this was at a university campus in Utah.

He was doing one of his, prove me wrong style question and answers with big crowds, which he does all the time.

He prioritises that in his schedule.

And then there was a single shot and it was captured on camera.

There is still a manhunt going on.
