Mr. Plotz mentioned that when you talk about American business,

you shouldn't just speak about the financial industry.

There are the Fortune 500, and I would add,

they're the Fortune 500 companies and other things besides the financial industry.

Now, my question addresses joblessness, which has, of course, dogged the Democratic Party,

and they've done what they can with fiscal and monetary policy for that.

But what they haven't done is to either request or demand that Fortune 500 companies repatriate

jobs or create jobs to take the place of all the jobs that they have offshoreed for the last

two decades. So what I want to know is why do you think that the Democratic Party or people in the media like yourselves have not brought up the possibility of pressuring Fortune 500 companies in ways, say that Lewis Uchitelli in his book, The Disposable American job loss in their and its consequences in ways that he has suggested,

through taxation and in other ways.

That's a really interesting question. Can I take that? I think the reason is that fundamentally

Democrats are liberal, I mean liberal in sort of the classical sense on economics, and that they

don't believe in that. That if you look at the main democratic economic policymakers, they

believe that the way America grows is through free trade

and through that investing in skills of our highly educated workers is the way that we will thrive

and that attempting to hold back in a kind of mercantilist fashion, hold back jobs in the U.S.
