Summary

It’s a week of whiplash on The Trawl. Marina and Jemma begin with words - literally - as they find the perfect Susie Dent–style term to capture the emotional chaos of the moment. From there, it’s a hard swerve into horrors too big to scroll past: Netanyahu’s meltdown over leaked footage from a detention centre, the ongoing genocide in Sudan, and why it's practically impossible to absorb it all.

But even in the darkness, the absurdities keep coming. Trump throws a “Great Gatsby” party (because of course he does), JD Vance gets intimate AF on stage with Erika Kirk and Marina and Jemma have a chat about the pros and cons of plether leggings.

In the Under Rated section Billie Eilish restores a little faith in humanity by donating $11 million to feed the hungry.

From genocide to greed, from linguistics to lunacy, Jemma and Marina trawl through a week that shows us the best and worst of what we are.

No one will ever replace my husband. No. But I do see some similarities of my husband in JD

0:08.3

and Vice President JD fans. I do.

Hello and welcome to The Trawl where we brave the timeline sift through the spin and bring you the best and worst of it. I'm Marina Perkis. And I'm Gemma Forte. And this is an unusual

0:33.4

troll week, isn't it? We have brought you not one, not two. What's the weekend, Gemma?

0:39.7

It's a weekend. It's the Saturday. Three episodes. You know why? Because there is just so much

0:46.6

going on and we didn't want to cram it all in or leave any of it out. Some of it is very uplifting.

0:53.3

So in yesterday's episode, we covered

0:55.6

the US elections and of course Mam Danny's historic win. Then back on Wednesday, we had a bit

1:02.2

of a laugh about Nigel Farage and saying that young people are earning too much with ÂŁ10 an

1:06.6

hour. But there is also some frankly horrendous stuff happening in the world as well. And in fact,

1:14.8

this kind of spoke to me because some days a new cycle is really thrilling and interesting,

1:19.4

but most days it's not. It's just sort of horrendous. And Susie Diamond Kane said,

1:24.1

because having a brain type with all the feels means you get to experience all

1:30.7

the feels. And then she came up with this word to encapsulate that. Exhawhelmulated.

1:37.9

I love that. And she said it's the feeling of being exhausted, overwhelmed and overstimulated all

1:42.9

at once. It's pretty much me all the time. Do you know what I'm feeling right now, Gemma? What? I'm feeling exhausted, or well-mulated and hungry. Hungry. Oh, oh. Very hungry. When she comes to a recording and she hasn't eaten, it's not good, babes. Go get a biscuit, get a biscuit. I'm not the best version of myself. I've actually got a drawer in my desk, and there's just, I'm so grim. Just loose almonds in it. Well, get one in your God now. She, ladies and gentlemen, there you go. Crush. Very good for you. Healthy shab. Yeah, very good.

2:19.1

Ready, ready to speak now?

2:19.8

Yeah, anyway.

2:21.4

Let me finish my mouthful.

2:24.8

Ever the professional.

2:27.4

Another person that's good with words, Susie Dent.

2:29.4

So many people will know her.
