0:05.0	Welcome to the lead. I'm Erica Hill, in for Jake Tapper. And we do begin this hour. As we continue our coverage of the major breaking news out of Washington, D.C., where two National Guard members were shot this afternoon. It happened in a busy section of downtown D.C. This is actually just blocks from the White House.
0:21.3	President Trump, of course, is not at the White House.
0:23.7	He is in Florida for the holiday.
0:25.7	FBI director, Kash Patel says both victims are in critical condition.
0:30.4	Earlier this afternoon, West Virginia's governor said the two guard members are from his state.
0:35.3	The governor also retracted an earlier announcement that the guard
0:38.5	members had died. We also just heard from the mayor of Washington, D.C. at a quick press conference,
0:43.7	we just heard as she offered more detail about the attack. What we know, Andrea, is that this is
0:50.6	a targeted shooting. One individual who appear to target these guardsmen,
0:56.6	that individual has been taken into custody. Three law enforcement sources telling CNN the suspect
1:02.8	approached the guardsmen appearing to target them. One source says the suspect is not
1:07.8	cooperating with investigators at this moment, and also if the suspect
1:10.9	did not have any identification on him at the time of his arrest.

1:16.0	So Brian, what more do we know about this shooting?
1:21.3	Well, Eric, just a few moments ago, we did get a little bit of detail from Jeff Carroll.
1:25.3	He's the executive assistant chief of the DC Metropolitan Police Department.
1:29.5	He said this incident occurred at about 2.15 p.m. Eastern time this afternoon at the intersection of 17th and I Streets Northwest.
1:36.9	That is not far away from where we're standing right here. That an individual, quote, came around the corner, raised his firearm at the two National Guardsmen and then discharged his firearm.
1:49.3	Now, earlier today, the Joint Task Force, D.C., which oversees the National Guard, told us that this incident occurred near the Farragut West Metro Station,
