84850. You can even tweet at Mr. James OB. In terms of the headlines that really sort of made my

jaw drop, I think that the front of the

queue is a report that one in three female surgeons has been assaulted by a colleague.

Now, there are two things to say from the outset. The first is, I don't really like lazy

stereotypes, but I do hear a lot over the years from you about some surgeons

suffering from a sort of God complex. I mean, even to the point where an absence of empathy

might make you a better surgeon. But I don't necessarily want to get stuck into the philosophy of that side of things.

And I certainly don't want surgeons listening to the program to feel unfairly targeted or pilloried.

But I'm afraid if one in three female surgeons are reporting sexual assault by a colleague,

then there's nothing unfair about the targeting.

We'll just try and avoid the pillorying while recognising throughout, of course, that,

shocking though this statistic is, it is by no means evidence that every male surgeon is a wrongan.

The other thought that occurred to me immediately upon seeing that headline was,

if it's female surgeons who were being assaulted by a colleague, so equals, as it were,

professional equals, one wonders quite what the situation is for juniors, for nurses and junior doctors

who are working with surgeons minded to assault her, a colleague who is a professional

equal, would their attitude to perceived juniors or inferior as be even more obnoxious?

Two-thirds of women working in surgery report having been sexually harassed by a colleague

in or around the operating theatre. In or around the operating theatre. It is apparently
