minute it was a rape and murder that baffled investigators for four decades, Christine Gallegos was 18 years old

when she was last seen hitchhiking to downtown Salt Lake City on her way to work on May 15,

1985. Her body was found the next morning. Police say she was beaten, raped, stabbed, and shot twice

in the head. On the 40th anniversary of her death, police announced the likely killer that evaded them

for decades.

Is Ricky Lee Stalworth, an Air Force veteran that went on to marry five times and have three kids

before his death in 2023? The same year, evidence from the crime scene was sent to a genetic

genealogy lab. Several months later, the lab said they had a suspect. Stallworth's son provided

a DNA sample that was a match to the DNA found on Gallego's body.

Stallworth was 27 at the time of Gallego's murder and was known to police for alleged interactions with prostitutes in the last two years of his life.

Police posthumously dubbed him the State Street stalker.
