Summary

It is May 2025 and I am in a sling, recovering from rotator cuff repair surgery. This episode was recorded two days post-op, so my voice may be a little slurred at times as I tried to speak into a microphone while under the influence of strong pain medications!  Why didn't I record before surgery? Because I was in conference season, which is the same as saying that I was living in airplanes and sleeping in hotels. But I wanted to provide an episode that would share some lessons that I have learned and continue to learn every time I face a new challenge--medical or otherwise. Are you going through a medical challenge? This episode is for you. Are you going through some other challenge? This episode will still be helpful. Things may be tough now, but you've been through tough things before and experienced the blessing of God turning trials into blessings.  "Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit." You know, there are times when we have medical challenges in our lives, and it can really disrupt

the flow of things, and it can be a bit unnerving, especially for those of us who are kind of the

go-go-do types, and we have to adjust. If you're listening to this episode and you're currently

0:17.2

going through something that's medical and you don't have a whole lot of

0:21.7

control, that's actually good for you.

And what's good for you is good for me too. Psalm 119 verse 71 does say, it is good for me that I have been

afflicted, that I might learn thy statutes. I have often said this at conferences around the country,

but we learn a lot more in the University of Adversity than we ever learn in the College of the Comfortable.

So we get a comfort zone going, even when we have a hard routine, we get a system down,

1:19.0

and we like our systems, and we work our systems, and we don't want anything to disrupt our systems.

1:24.7

But medical adventures can do that. I'm currently going through one right now, and it is such

1:30.2

light affliction, because while I am going through the recovery of rotator cuff repair surgery,

1:37.0

I have friends that are walking through much harder, much harder adventures than this.

But there are a few things that I've learned from previous medical

1:46.5

adventures, because this isn't my first rodeo. In fact, I have to say that it is true that if thou

faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small. Proverbs 2410 tells us that, and really what

1:58.7

that's trying to say is adversity builds strength. So when you've

2:02.8

had other things that you've gone through, the next time you go through something difficult,

2:07.6

that previous adventure serves a purpose of building you up for what you're going to go through
