Artificial intelligence. We've all encountered the term in science fiction and movies and books,

but what does it mean exactly? And what does it mean for our world? How does it bump up against

a Christian view of the world? I'm Shane Morris, and joining me today on the Breakpoint podcast

is someone who set out to answer or at least begin answering those questions. Jason Thacker

is an associate research fellow

at the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. He's the

author of The Age of AI, Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Humanity. And in it, he shows

what it looks like when someone who's really informed and grounded in Christian theology

and ethics, but also really

up to date on technology begins harmonizing the two. He deals with incredibly complex questions

like how we distinguish between human beings and computers as AI becomes ever more advanced,

how we navigate ethical pitfalls when AI meets medicine and the battlefield and what hard lines we have to draw

to keep from losing our humanity in machines that mimic it. Jason, thanks so much for joining me

today on the Breakpoint podcast. Yeah, thank you so much for having me, Shane. Let's start by laying a

foundation here. In the book, you begin with the concept of the image of God, which is just the

foundation for so much good theology.

What does it mean?

You go through a couple of different views, and this is very important for AI, even though

it doesn't seem related at first.

You talk about the substantive view, relational, functional.

What does it mean that we're made in the image of God?

And can a machine ever attain that status?
