Summary

In this Podcast Short, John delves into the topic of plant consciousness and intelligence. John talks about how plants are not just passive organisms, but possess significant cognitive abilities and responsiveness. Drawing inspiration from Stephen Herrod Buhner's works, particularly "The Lost Language of Plants," John discusses how plants demonstrate informed decision-making capabilities and can react to human intentions.

John also cites additional scientific findings that assert plants have sophisticated neural networks contained within their root systems, similar to human neural systems, which are capable of learning and memory.

About John Kempf
John Kempf is the founder of Advancing Eco Agriculture (AEA). A top expert in biological and regenerative farming, John founded AEA in 2006 to help fellow farmers by providing the education, tools, and strategies that will have a global effect on the food supply and those who grow it.

Through intense study and the knowledge gleaned from many industry leaders, John is building a comprehensive systems-based approach to plant nutrition – a system solidly based on the sciences of plant physiology, mineral nutrition, and soil microbiology.

Support For This Show & Helping You Grow
Since 2006, AEA has been on a mission to help growers become more resilient, efficient, and profitable with regenerative agriculture.

AEA works directly with growers to apply its unique line of liquid mineral crop nutrition products and biological inoculants. Informed by cutting-edge plant and soil data-gathering techniques, AEA's science-based programs empower farm operations to meet the crop quality markers that matter the most.

AEA has created real and lasting change on millions of acres with its products and data-driven services by working hand-in-hand with growers to produce healthier soil, stronger crops, and higher profits.

Beyond working on the ground with growers, AEA leads in regenerative agriculture media and education, producing and distributing the popular and highly-regarded Regenerative Agriculture Podcast, inspiring webinars, and other educational content that serve as go-to resources for growers worldwide.

Hi friends, this is John. Welcome back to the Regionative Agriculture podcast. Our topic for

0:06.8

to discussion today is a topic that has always been very dear and important to me, and that

0:15.1

is around expanding our awareness of plant consciousness and plant intelligence.

0:24.1

If you've been the listener of the podcast for a while, or if I've listened to any of my presentations,

0:28.3

you know that one of my favorite quotes is originally attributed to Bill O'Brien,

0:33.4

and it is that the outcome of an intervention has nothing to do with the skills or knowledge of the intervener.

0:39.8

It has everything to do with the place within from which the intervener comes.

0:45.2

It's easy for us to consider this dynamic when we are interacting with other people and even with other animals and livestock.

0:58.2

But I think we often fail to take into consideration that this same dynamic is equally true or perhaps even more true

1:02.5

when we are working with plants we don't consider plants to be sentient or

1:08.0

conscious beings or being capable of informed decision-making.

1:12.7

That's only true because we're uninformed about the state of the science and how science has been

1:17.8

progressing on what capabilities plants truly have.

1:22.4

One of my original inspirations in this topic was the author Stephen Herod Buner.

1:32.3

The first of Stephen's books that I read was titled The Lost Language of Plants.

1:36.3

And he has this, Stephen has an incredible writing style.

1:40.3

He's one of my favorite authors in terms of his writing style, which is both poetic

1:48.1

and it is poetic prose. It's a wonderful writing style. But he was also speaking about a topic

1:54.3

that was very important to me. And so today, I could speak about many instances where we have observed plants responding to people

2:05.3

and responding to the intentions that people carry.

2:08.2

In other words, the place that they come from within.

2:12.1

And there is the old trial that has made its round on social media for over a decade where many different
