we answer the questions posed by you, the listeners,

and Nick asks we have all heard the phrase mentioned in dispatches as a recognition of meritorious conduct.

Can you explain the following, please?

The kind of action for which an MID mentioned dispatches was given?

What were the dispatches and who wrote them?

Are the documents available to view online?

If so, where?

And was an MID awarded just to officers or could it apply to all ranks?

Any additional information about mentioned dispatches will be very welcome as I have recently discovered

the relative was mentioned three times during the Great War as well as receiving a DSO in 1917.
