the host Greg Miller alongside he only does everything call more yard and you know every Thursday we talk PlayStation news and reports and we give you some information, give you some opinions, sing a song, have some fun, curse a lot, usually getting trouble. But today it's Tuesday. It is a normal Tuesday on a

two day April 26th 2011 and huge news call what what has happened. The PlayStation network has been has failed us. Yes we knew last week. Yes PlayStation network offline since Wednesday. They had said officially you know this is we were a Thursday podcast. So Thursday we came into the show and they said it'll be down a day or two. Right. We're working on it with just maintenance. They didn't say what was up right slowly never came back up. The weekend still not up. No real word. You wrote about it. You wrote an editorial about this. Right. So yeah.

Sony had released a bunch of you know not a bunch like maybe over the period until yesterday for so nebulous vague statements on the PlayStation blog about what happened and eventually it came out that you know it was a malicious attack on the network and then they were going to try to get up quickly and they were keeping in touch with us. But they really weren't doing a good job of keeping in touch with us at all. In fact there and you say us. You mean us as general consumers.

No no no yeah I mean they weren't not that they were they weren't talking to any outlets I don't think and which is fine. Very quiet on the media. Yeah they but they haven't been communicating with anyone on what was going on obviously what the hell happened. Yeah exactly it's like obviously a very very very minute minority of people read the PlayStation blog and that was the only place you can find information on it unless you were going to other video game website. So this is how this is how you know vague everything was I knew things were starting to blow up on my dad on Sunday told me that he heard on 10 10 wins which is an

AM news station in New York that he heard about the PlayStation network outage and I was like I was just becoming a pretty big deal. But anyway so it's not so on the network still down and today I come back from lunch Pacific time so it must have been like one o'clock. Yeah PlayStation blog updates and says that our work basically confirms our worst fears all of our information has has been breached and compromised. They talked about possibly credit card information back in the day they talked about it you know when they finally started giving stuff it all did say it was an external intrusion which basically mean yeah somebody came in hacked the

PSN and used it for their own whatever they wanted to do with it right today they come out and say yes somebody got in the PSN back in and while they were there they had access to your full name your username your password where you live how old you are your security questions and your security answers most alarming credit card information and the problem with it right is that you figure even if you don't have a

you don't have credit card attached to the PSN at this very moment in the past if you've used a credit card on the PSN somewhere that's getting saved that information is stored as a transaction right so somewhere and you know and don't get me wrong like you know Sony didn't say for sure that you're in that they're into the credit cards that this happened

blah blah blah however there's no telling at this point especially how it's been pulling teeth from them what has been taken and how deep they got into

yeah all right so here's it all right so I guess we should make that we make the the point that they basically confirm that a certain information is definitely out there yeah and certain

information might be out there here comes Jim Riley from his story today the PSN information compromised Sony says it believes in unauthorized purposes and has obtained the following personal

information that you provided name address country email address birth date playstation that works slash curiosity what I don't know

yeah nobody cares about that thing password and login and handle slash PSN online ID Patrick Sebel from Sony also says that quote profile data including purchase history and billing address and your

PlayStation network password and security answers quote may have been obtained sub account information may have also been compromised there is also no

evidence that credit card information has but obtained but Sony is not ruling out the possibility quote if you have provided your credit card data through

PlayStation network or curiosity don't don't use curiosity yeah I don't even know what that is it's a music thing okay who the iTunes one it's over out of an abundance of

caution we are advising you that your credit card number excluding security code and expiration date so this is weird read it we are advising that your

credit card number parentheses excluding security code and parentheses and expiration date may have been obtained right so in other words the date and the

number but not the code and here's here's the truth behind that ladies gentlemen that means it's been obtained yep you don't come out and say the like that you the worst possible thing unless that's

probably absolutely absolutely agree with you I the most troubling thing now I'm no engineer I'm not I'm not I'm not a guru you want to know I mean I'm not I have a degree in American history so okay so not very it's very

confused but it seems like if you were to see in other words if you were to go on a server and steal information isn't that supposed to be

encrypted anyway to just because of such a thing so it seems like this information wasn't even encrypted like yeah we're way above our
