SHOW DESCRIPTION: In this podcast I talk about how to improve your relationship, develop sexual intimacy, and increase your health and longevity through compromise. This is part 3 of my series on love, sex, relationships and wellbeing. As I mentioned in parts 1 and 2 of this podcast, relationships can be incredibly challenging at times. But they are also incredibly rewarding and can have a beneficial effect on our mind, brain and body health, right down to the level of our telomeres, and can contribute to better longevity.

Hi, I'm Dr Caroline Leif and welcome to my podcast, Cleaning Up the Mental Mace.

0:09.4

Well, today's part three of the series I've been doing called Love Sixth Relationships

0:14.4

and Telomeres and I'd love you to go back and listen to part one and part two where

0:19.5

this is basically a continuation.

0:22.1

It's what we have found from research is that when we are developing our relationships,

0:28.8

growing our relationships, creating safe spaces for our relationship, including sexual

0:34.9

intimacy, we are basically increasing our telomere length, which means that we are increasing

0:41.2

our biological health, we're increasing our cellular health, which contributes to this

0:45.3

increasing of our biological health.

0:47.8

And one of the study that kind of stimulated this discussion was one done by Dr Lisa Eppel

1:05.3

increases telomere length and contributes to increasing happiness.

1:09.0

And there's been a lot of studies done around this as well.

1:15.4

In the first and second part of this podcast, I gave you some tips that can help to ensure

1:20.1

that you can develop these safe, supportive relationships, which can contribute not just

1:25.5

sexual intimacy, but to have intimacy and supportive relationships between partners.

1:30.9

And the research also shows is that long term supportive relationships lead to increased

1:36.7

levels of happiness, health, telomere length, etc.

1:39.2

So therefore, the whole thing that I always talk about how the mind-brain body influence

1:44.0

is connected and how we are in our environment to fix the mind-brain body connection is pretty

1:49.7

much born out in so many different areas.
