0:32.6	But please don't think that this is any kind of a sacrifice on my part because, well, I really dislike New Year's Eve parties.
0:40.3	And for a long time, this made me feel like an outcast, but at least until a few days ago it did,
0:45.9	when John Oliver posted a YouTube video in which, among other things, he said, New Year's Eve is like the death of a pet.
0:53.8	You know it's going to happen, but somehow
0:55.9	you're never really prepared for how truly awful it is. So thank you, John Oliver, for letting me know
1:03.4	that I'm not the only one who stays home on New Year's Eve. Actually, it's quite nice being here at home
1:09.0	and in the salon with you right now.
1:11.2	So, hey, happy New Year, by the way.
1:14.4	And just a word to our new listeners, particularly if you're becoming as enamored with the flowing words of the Bard McKenna as I and many of my friends were at first,
1:25.1	my advice is to be sure that you listen to him with a critical ear.
1:29.7	For me, Terrence's raps are starting points to get me thinking, but I no longer treat everything
1:34.9	that he says as gospel. So, whenever he uses the word clearly, I'd really be careful that you don't
1:41.2	automatically assume that what he sees so clearly is how it still is.
1:46.0	And in fairness to Terrence, it's also wise to keep in mind that the talk that we're about
1:50.8	to listen to was given in May of 1993. So it took place over 21 years ago, and it's likely that
1:58.5	by now he may have changed his mind about some of the things that were so clear to him at the time.
