I feel a little bit off and honestly there was not a lot of stuff going on except the big one we're going to have lots of border stuff later, but let's start with the international news first as we do.

And thought I get started in Pakistan lots going on over there very important country obviously but Imran Khan Pakistan's former leader was arrested.

You guys have heard me talk about Imran Khan before he was the former cricket star and then he became the prime minister of India and then he was like kind of ousted in the weird political maneuvering over there.

And yeah now he was arrested on corruption charges this week on Tuesday and they're calling this a major escalation of this political crisis that have engulfed Pakistan over the past year and you guys probably saw all the stuff coming out on social media all of his supporters rioting and stuff and again just one more time that's how you know you've made it as a leader.

But yeah this is kind of like a showdown between the Pakistani military and Khan now Pakistani leaders have faced arrest before but not anybody as popular as Khan who challenged the military.

Now if you didn't know Pakistan has kind of been run by the military behind the scenes for many decades so what's this all about well political tensions have been building up for a while.

Khan was removed from office last year heavily covered on the podcast of course and he has been accusing the military and the current government of conspiring against him both of those institutions deny that.

So Khan was at a court hearing in Islamabad when he was arrested by paramilitary troops he wasn't custody of an update in a moment but you can see videos of the arrest of Khan being led into law enforcement vehicles and he's basically surrounded by cops and all kinds of riot gear now this charge that he's facing is corruption.

One of the charges is has to do with like a land transfer for a university but yeah soon after he's arrested all kinds of protests happen in Lahore a shitload of Khan supporters ransacked the official residents of an army commander additionally hundreds of protesters also gathered outside the army headquarters in raw wall pindi just outside Islamabad.

And in Karachi the port city the police fired tear gas to disperse crowds at block the city's main thoroughfare protesters burned a police vehicle a prison van and an entire checkpoint obviously this is important to us Pakistan is a nuclear armed nation of 230 million people it's had a lot of instability it's had a lot of military coups since they're founding 75 years ago in that infamous partition with India.

Now the military has ruled for over half that time and even under their civilian governments military leaders are seen as kind of the force responsible for letting people take charge.

So Khan really made kind of a huge political comeback after he was kicked out of office last year he holds these rallies with like tens of thousands of people he always calls for fresh elections sounds familiar right.

But prosecutors have in recent months opened dozens of court cases against Khan including on charges of terrorism and these charges of corruption and he's been facing threats of arrest because he usually doesn't show up to court so I guess they finally just had enough and they came to get him.

The current prime minister remember is Shabbaz Sharif and this really came to a head last November you guys will recall Khan was wounded in that shooting after an unidentified man opened fire on his convoy his aids did describe that as an assassination attempt.

And yeah Khan has accused a senior intelligence official in the government of playing a role in that shooting.

Now this week military officials offered a sharp rebuke to those accusations saying that Khan had targeted military and intelligence officials with quote insinuations and sensational propaganda and quote to further his political agenda.
