And let's get right into it you guys as we start the two and a half hour monologue, no breaks,

no editing, the steel trap mind on full display.

And let's get into what's going on in Haiti.

And of course you've probably heard by now that President Jovenel Moise has been assassinated,

a group of assailants stormed Moise's residence on the outskirts of the Capitol Porto Prince early on Wednesday,

shooting him dead and wounding his wife, Martin, in what officials call a well-planned operation that included foreigners who spoke Spanish.

So in a televised broadcast of the nation, the nation's interim prime minister Claude Joseph appealed for

himself as the new head of the government announcing that he and his fellow ministers had declared a state of siege and placed Haiti under a form of a martial law.

Now this assassination leaves a void in the political world there that has deepened the turmoil and violence that has gripped Haiti for months.

So we're going to get into the live updates soon, but let's just get the background of what happened.

It's still kind of unclear why and who shot the actual president, but four people suspected of being involved in the assassination were already killed by the cops in a gun battle and two others were arrested.

Let's see here in recent months, if you didn't know, protesters had been taking to the streets in Haiti to demand that Moise step down in February,

and this is five years after his election at what they said should be the end of his term.

Now in Haiti, of course, one of the world's most troubled countries, as the New York Times delicately puts it, armed gangs have taken control of the streets,

terrorizing poor neighborhoods and kidnapping school children, church pastors, poverty and hunger are rising.

Many accused members of the government of enriching themselves will not providing the population with even the most basic services.
