And of course I pushed my usual start time of, you know, I try to get started around noon each day, but I did want to watch C-SPAN.

And yeah, of course, the big news of the day, it is official.

The votes are 50 to confirm Brett Kavanaugh as the new Supreme Court Justice of the United States against the 48 people who said no in the Senate.

The senators in the chamber who wish to vote or change a vote. Senate. Why don't we go ahead and just listen to Mike Pence right here. Here we go. I'm looking around. Mike Pence, looking dapper. If not, on this vote, the eyes are 50.

The nays are 48. The nomination of Brett M. Kavanaugh of Maryland to be an associate

justice of the Supreme Court of the United States is confirmed. Okay, there you have it. It's

finally happened. I would say it's over, but we know this is far from over. And yeah, you know, I wasn't even planning

on starting with this because, frankly, there's not much more to say about it. But this is the

main story of the United States. And let's just talk about it really quick. And what's

happened throughout the week? Of course, this vote was almost entirely along party lines, 50 to 48, as I said.

Senator Lisa Murkowski did vote present instead of no. And that apparently was in order to accommodate a colleague who could not attend.

It was another senator who was attending his daughter's wedding,

and he said he would vote yes and fly back if necessary in order to cast a vote, but that

was not apparently needed. The lone Democrat to support Justice Brett Kavanaugh was

Joe Manchin the third, senator out of West Virginia.

And this final vote was expected. All senators had announced their intentions by Friday after that nomination cleared that crucial procedural hurdle in a 51 to 49 vote.

And now, although the fight is over, people on both sides of the debate agree that this

will have lasting ramifications on the Senate, the Supreme Court, and the nation.
