My Aunt B has walked by that picture at least a thousand times remarked that he that her father my papa had high cheekbones like all of the indians do

because that's how she saw it and she said and your mother got those same

great cheekbones and I didn't she thought this was the bad deal she had gotten in life

my mom and then were very much in love with each other and they wanted to get married and my father's

parents said absolutely not you can't marry her because she's part Cherokee and she's part Delaware.

And after fighting it as long as I could, my parents went off, they eloped.

It was an issue in our family.

The whole time I grew up about these two families, it was an issue still raised at my mother's funeral.

This is who I grew up believing with my brothers.

This is our family's story.
