Matt's mom here. We are here for Thanksgiving, and I want to take just a minute to thank you so much for supporting Matt and his family. We appreciate what he does, and I know you do too. And thanks. Philemen, yeah, philemen, yeah.

Hey, everybody, it's Matt.

This is the 10-minute Bible Hour podcast, and I tell you what, I have been enjoying sporting documentaries lately.

0:37.0

And, you know, obviously the big appeal of sports is that two teams

0:40.2

meet on the field of metaphorical battle at a scheduled time, and there will be a result,

0:44.1

and history will be made, and nobody knows what's going to happen. It's drama in real time.

0:48.8

I'm a sucker for that. It kind of tickles the same part of my brain as history stuff does.

0:53.6

But it all looks so simple

0:55.6

when you watch those games. They played. There was a score. Somebody won. Somebody lost. Somebody got

1:01.1

hurt. Oh, no. And then it's over and you move on. But what I like about these documentaries,

1:08.0

like The Last Dance, that told the story of the Chicago Bulls run of dominance in the

1:12.9

1990s, or this new one that just came out with my childhood football hero John Elway, or one I watched

1:20.1

about the rivalry between the Colorado Avalanche and the Detroit Red Wings. What I like about these

1:26.3

is they show you the massive complexity of what

1:30.9

is going on behind the scenes. And when you just look in a box score, when you look on the

1:35.4

internet, you're like, who won that game that day? It is all so simple. This is how much points

1:40.8

everybody scored from quarter to quarter. This was the final score. These were the

1:44.8

records at the end. But of course, so much more is going on. And these documentaries capture that.

1:50.8

Likewise, I feel like the last couple of weeks of working our way up to the time of the

1:56.5

letter of Philemon in the New Testament has been another one of those lessons in reality of just how

2:02.9

complicated stuff is. If you were one of the ones who were lucky enough to have a world sieve or

2:09.9

a Western sieve class in high school or college, and you think back to the part about
