Hey, everybody, it's Matt.

This is the 10-minute Bible Hour podcast,

and we are working our way toward a little tiny book of the Bible at the very end of the New Testament called Philemon.

The book seems so stinking simple.

It's clearly a book written in a different time with different sets of rules and circumstances that seem kind of foreign to us.

But then when you read it, it's very personal.

And you can see the relational dynamics,

the business dynamics, the institutional dynamics, the moral dynamics, and the pressures that

are in play. Well, that doesn't feel so foreign at all when you read it. It feels very human,

and it feels a lot like the lives we live today and the tensions we deal with today.

And it all just happens so quickly. It's only 25 verses long. But to really ring all the juice

out of that little book of Philemon, there's a lot of history and Bible setup that we got to do.

And we got started on that last week. Last week, we threw

a decent amount of energy at how Rome, the Roman Empire that was in charge of everything at the time

the letter of Philemon was written. We talked about how Rome came to be. Now, Philemon was probably

written, I don't know, what do I have it listen as here? I just wrote a book about this, and I think it just went to final manuscript form.
