Those of you who are watching the currently running season three of HBO's The Guilded Age know who I'm talking about.

And it's not Bertha Russell. It's perhaps the most incisive, eagle-eyed and pointed-tonged social arbiter of them all,

the socialite Mamie Fish, brilliantly portrayed by actor Ashley Atkinson.

Mamie seems to have insight on just about everyone, and not much escapes her radar.

In this special bonus encore episode, I sit down with Ashley

Atkinson and listener-favorite guest historian Keith Talion to talk about just who the real

Mamie Fish really was.

The character of Gilded Age socialite Mamie Fish,

otherwise known as Mrs. Stuyvesant Fish,

became one of the most followed characters in HBO's series,

The Guilded Age.

With her pointed no-holds-barred comments,

an ability to seemingly turn up everywhere, Mamie was a much welcomed

foil to the barbs shot between Mrs. Astor and Bertha Russell. Mamie Fish was real. She reigned

at the top of the set, often called the 400 as one of the leaders of society.

And while challenging Mrs. Astor in many ways, she never toppled her.

Mamie's goals were perhaps different.

At the time, she was called a funmaker.

But by modern historians, most certainly she is called a rule breaker. But who was she?

Really?
